When will these guys ever get it? How many professional athletes need to get caught with illegal guns before they realize it might not be the smartest idea? The most recent allegations of Raymond Felton's gun charges come as no surprise to me, yet every time something like this breaks in the media I wonder, what is going on in this guys head!? Maybe it was the last second KILLER shot that Dirk drained in Melo's face to end the game a mere few hours prior to the incident that really got Felton going, but I doubt it.
Felton turned himself into the authorities after allegedly pointing an illegally owned gun at and threatening his wife. The 29-year old point guard now faces two felony and one misdemeanor weapons charges, carrying a maximum sentence of seven years. Maybe he was trying to one-up his former NY buddy, wide receiver Plaxico Burress, who famously shot himself in the leg at a night club...with his own weapon....? Incredible, just typing that sentence made me laugh at the situations these guys put themselves in.
Don't worry though, Felton was easily able to cover the $25,000 bail amount with the $3.64 million he is being paid this year. He returned to practice today with the support of his coach and organization, saying he is not a distraction. The duty now lies in the hands of the police and authorities to figure out what punishment he will face.
In other exciting "Athletes Doing Dumb Things News", former Patriots TE Aaron Hernandez, who is facing multiple murder charges, beat up another inmate in prison. Speaking of beating up, Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice allegedly struck his fiance in an Atlantic City casino, and is caught on video dragging her out of an elevator where she looks unusually knocked unconscious.
That all said, athletes are doing great things all over the nation to support the communities that surround them, it's just the handful of guys like these who blow me away.
