Masahiro Tanaka was dominant today in the Yankees 3-0 victory against the Chicago Cubs. The Yankees starter struck out ten while just giving up two bunt singles in eight shutout innings. This is Tanaka's second ten strikeout game in a row. Through three games this season Tanaka has 28 strikeouts which is third most through three games since 1900. He is also only the second player to strikeout at least eight batters in each of his first three games.
These Japanese pitchers are hard to figure out. For every Yu Darvish there is a Daisuke Matsuzaka. Based on his small sample size it looks like Tanaka is more Darvish than Daisuke. This guy is a strikeout machine! I predict he will be the Yankees number one starter by the beginning of next season.
