Michael Vick signed a one year, five million dollar deal with the New York Jets on Friday. Jets Quarterback Geno Smith seems excited about working with the four time Pro Bowl Quarterback. Smith said, "Awesome, man. Vick's my guy... We needed to find a guy that was legitimately a guy that could come in and play. I think that's what we did."
Interesting move by the Jets here. Not sure if I hate it or love it. On one hand Vick can give you so much as a player. See video above. He's a respected locker room guy. These young Quarterbacks loved watching Vick play as they grew up. He was also a major positive influence on Nick Foles last season. BUT he can probably only give you 10 games a season MAX and has turned into a turnover machine.
Geno Smith played in 16 games last year. It seems like he's your guy for the future. Granted, he played horribly at times, there were other times where he looked pretty good. I am sure Vick wins the Jets job in training camp. How can he not? So the Jets will have given Smith the reins last year, then taken them back for this season when Vick wins the job, then when Vick inevitably gets injured they're going to give them back to Smith. Roller coaster ride for a young QB. At least they got rid of Mark Sanchez. Will the Jets ever have a stable Quarterback situation?
