And so begins the farewell tour of the greatest baseball player that has played in my lifetime. I often find myself conflicted when it comes to the Yankees. Hate the team, hate how they bought a championship and stopped the Phillies from repeating as champs, but I love a lot of their guys. Always liked Texiera, Cano (when he was there), Brett Gardner, Mo, Posada but especially Derek Jeter. Nothing sweeter than seeing Jeter field a ground ball deep in the hole between short and third, jump and throw a runner out at first. See picture above.
Jeter will be in Cooperstown on his first ballot. His stats just speak for themselves 3316 hits, career .312 hitter, five time World Series champion, one World Series MVP, five gold gloves, five silver sluggers. Craziest thing I've learned about him while looking up these stats is he has played 158 playoff games. Thats almost a FULL REGULAR SEASON of playoff games. He hit .308 in those games while hitting .321 in SEVEN World Series.
Couldn't find a good gif or video of the flip play against the A's but that has to be one of the top 3 plays of all time right? What about the "Mr. November" home run in the World Series against the D-Backs? Or that catch when he dove head first into the seat at the old Yankee Stadium? Too many incredible plays to count. I'm going to miss 'The Captain.' He is class personified and a great role model for young players. He just flat out plays the game the right way. Enjoy his final season folks. We may never see another player quite like number 2.
