I decided to wait a day to write this blog because I wanted to see if my mind changed as the day went on and I gave it more thought. To be clear (incase it hasn't been abundantly clear from my previous blogs) I have been an Eagles fan all of my life. My mind hasn't changed. After reading through social media I seem to be in the minority camp on this one. I am happy the Philadelphia Eagles cut DeSean Jackson yesterday.
DeSean's playmaking and ability to stretch the field is unquestionable. He is a top 10 WR in the league, he is 27, a three time Pro Bowl selection and is coming off the best year of his career. This is still the greatest football play I've ever witnessed live.

It's hard to believe an organization would just let a player of his caliber walk for nothing. Not many organizations would. Good for the Eagles.
As a fan, I have simply gotten tired of DeSean Jackson. Anyone remember DeSean Jackson's 2011 season? Neither do I. Jackson pretty much took the season off because he wasn't happy with his contract. He held out of training camp to start the season and reported to camp on the last possible day he could before he lost a years salary. He was deactivated against the Cardinals because he missed a special teams meeting. Later in the season he was benched for the whole forth quarter of a game because of his on the field effort. DeSean, thats not how it works buddy. I don't pay you so you play harder. You play hard, produce and I pay you. The Eagles gave him a contract extension in 2012. Of course DeSean played like shit in 2012. Only 700 receiving yards and two touchdowns in 12 games. Granted, the whole Eagles team played like shit all season, but you see my point. In 2013 Jackson had the best season of his career. So what does he say in January in regards to a new contract? "I definitely feel its something deserving." WHAT?!? Are you kidding me? We just gave you a $48.5 million contract ($18 million guaranteed) two years ago and you have only played well for half the time. Fat chance you get a new contract guy. DeSean is the type of guy who is only motivated by money and he will NEVER be happy with his contract. He's not a team guy he's a money guy. I know it, Eagles management knows it and most importantly, Chip Kelly knows it.
Kelly's team revolves around buying into a system and a culture. Everyone needs to buy in. DeSean never has. According to the NJ.com article that broke yesterday Jackson had a bad attitude, an inconsistent work ethic, missed meetings and a lack of chemistry with Chip. Is this a guy you want on your team?

No thanks. Seems like its one guy against the rest of the team in this clip. You don't buy into Chip's system? GTFO. It's clear he didn't fit this culture by the reaction from his former teammates. Here's what Jason Kelce said on twitter.
I'm tired of watching DeSean take plays off. You think Nick Foles can go get in DeSean's face and tell him he needs to give more to the team (a franchise QBs responsibility)? No way DeSean won't listen to Foles.
Here's something I've always said about DeSean that I think gets overlooked. This guy is ONE ACL injury from being a nobody. He's not big or strong. All he has is his speed. One injury and he's never the same player again. This guys not growing any more and he's still the same weight he was in the draft.
Now it comes out he has possible gang ties. He's never been convicted of a crime, but the article from NJ.com is pretty damning. I think the Eagles found out about this last week and stopped shopping him. If they did trade him before the news came out some team would be stuck with this guy. How would that make the Eagles look? Who would want to trade with them in the future?
This draft is loaded at WR. The Eagles will be just fine. Kelvin Benjamin anyone?
