Phil Jackson has announced he will become the President of the New York Knicks. After learning of his arrival Knicks superstar Carmelo Anthony said he is willing to make changes to his game if Jackson suggests them. Anthony said, "I'm willing to do whatever... As long as it's gonna put me in a position to win, I'm willing to do whatever. I'm not sold or stuck on my play." Anthony, who will be a free agent this off season, seems to be leaning toward staying in New York. Anthony also said, "It's definitely more attractive" in regards to his future with the Knicks.
I'm going to take on the roll of Phil Jackson in this blog. I'd start by telling Carmelo this:
Hey guy listen you haven't won anything in this league. I've won two NBA Championships as a player and eleven as a coach. So here's what I'm telling you you have to do.
1. PLAY A LICK OF DEFENSE!!!
I think this one is pretty self explanatory. What's the biggest difference between you and LeBron James? HE PLAYS DEFENSE! He's also got two championships. Coincidence? Maybe, but probably not. There might not be a better scorer than you in this league, but this isn't football. You have to play on both sides of the court in the NBA. You will never win if you don't start playing defense. Start playing defense or your out of here. No one is too good for defense.
2. Your shots don't matter
It appears through your 10+ years in this league you are pretty content with losing as long as you get your shots and your points. You are selfish. WINNING IS THE ONLY THING THAT MATTERS. You're 29 and not getting any younger. Gotta start passing the ball and stop taking bad shots. You know you take them, I know you take them.
3. Stay in New York
I can build a team around you that can win a championship. You better start playing defense.
