On Friday, the Cincinnati Bengals gave Head Coach Marvin Lewis a one year extension, protecting his job for at least one more season.
How does this guy still have a job? How am I the only person asking this question? Remember last week when I asked about Rick Ankiel and the definition of mediocrity? Marvin Lewis is probably the definition of mediocrity. Look it up in the dictionary and prove me wrong. In ten years as head coach, Lewis has a combined regular season and post season record of 90-90-1. Mediocre? His playoff record? 0-5. C'mon guy you've had some pretty good teams and you never won a playoff game?
Sure Lewis lead the Bengals to their first playoff appearance in 15 years in 2003, but what have you done for me lately? Three playoff losses in a row. Thats what. In the same time (11 seasons) the Dallas Cowboys have had a 97-79 regular season record and have had three coaches. Crazy how when someone is in a small market there is no repercussions for mediocre coaching.
